TOTM (tris (2-etylhexyl) trimellitat) är ett mjukgörare med låg volatilitet som är lämpligt för många applikationer såsom tråd- och kabelisolering, verktyg för applikationer som kräver isoleringspackningar och medicinska slangar. Det är också ett idealiskt alternativ till ftalatmjukgörare i applikationer där lägre flyktighet är av yttersta vikt.
TOTM:s molekylvikt gör den mindre mobil än DOTP och andra monomera mjukgörare. Detta resulterar i en långsammare absorption i porösa PVC-hartspartiklar under blandningen.
Låga utvinningshastigheter
TOTM (Trioctyl Trimellitate) är en utmärkt, högmolekylär, grenad mjukgörare som är lämplig för applikationer där extremt låg flyktighet krävs. Detta gör den till ett utmärkt val för diskvattenpackningar, bilinteriörer eller gjutna delar, elektrisk, flexibel medicinsk och kabelisolering.
Dessutom är TOTM mycket resistent mot utvinning från PVC. Den används i en mängd olika applikationer inklusive kalandrering och extrudering.
I denna studie visar vi att lågfälts-NMR-spektroskopi kan användas för att identifiera och kvantifiera mängden olika PVC-mjukgörare i lösning. Fördelen med denna metod är att den använder en större känslig volym än standardmetoden vilket resulterar i lägre detektionsgränser och högre LOD vid samma koncentration. Det möjliggör också användningen av lämpliga icke-deutererade lösningsmedel för extraktionssteget.
Låga migrationshastigheter
TOTM har de lägsta migrationshastigheterna bland alla testade mjukgörare. Detta beror främst på dess höga molekylvikt, vilket gör den mindre känslig för spänningssprickor.
Detta är en viktig egenskap eftersom den tillåter kopplingar och andra styva komponenter att förbli i kontakt med PVC-slangar. Det är också en anledning till att TOTM valdes för användning i medicinsk utrustning på grund av dess låga migreringsförmåga.
Förångnings- och diffusionsprocesserna är i allmänhet de två primära sätten för förlust av mjukningsmedel. Det finns dock en övergångstemperatur (Tc) där förångningsprocessen blir den dominerande moden och diffusionsprocessen inte längre är lika stark. Denna förändring i kinetiken observeras vanligtvis vid lägre temperaturer för förångningsprocessen och vid högre temperaturer för diffusionsprocessen.
Utmärkt motstånd mot extraktion
TOTM Mjukgörare är en av de mest effektiva mjukgörare utan ftalater. Dess utmärkta prestandaegenskaper, flexibilitet vid låg temperatur och motståndskraft mot extraktion med tvålvatten gör den till ett idealiskt val för plastisoler.
Den används också för inredning av vinyl för bilar och tråd- och kabelisolering (TOTM-CA). Sammansättningen ger en hög grad av flyktighetsbeständighet till PVC-föreningar och behåller den ursprungliga töjningen efter luftugnsåldring.
GEHTMA-3 innehållande estergrupper, hydroxylgrupper, epoxiringar och kväve, fungerar som en kompatibilisator mellan PVC och DOTP. Den har fördelen av en hög förgreningsgrad och stor relativ molekylvikt. Dessutom har den en högre polaritet än DOP. Den här egenskapen är fördelaktig för att undertrycka migration.
Låg toxicitet
Trioctyl trimellitate (TOTM) är en extremt lågflyktig mjukgörare som används i ett brett spektrum av polyvinylklorid och andra plaster. Den erbjuder utmärkta bearbetningsegenskaper, höga kokpunkter och lång hållbarhet.
Till skillnad från DEHP, som kan verka som ett giftigt ämne för människor och djur, är TOTM ett ftalatfritt mjukgörare med mycket låg toxicitet. Dessutom är TOTM biologiskt nedbrytbart och innehåller inga polymerisationshämmare eller etoxylerade monoglycerider.
Utvecklingen av icke-ftalater som TOTM, diisononylftalat (DINCH) och diestrar från förestring av isosorbid med växtbaserade fettsyror utgör ett potentiellt alternativ till ftalater i PVC-applikationer. POLYSORB(r) ID 37 är ett exempel på en sådan produkt. Det är ett billigt, biologiskt nedbrytbart och hållbart alternativ till ftalater och andra kemiska tillsatser i PVC.
Flexibilitet vid låg temperatur
Den låga temperaturflexibiliteten hos TOTM mjukgörare gör att den kan användas i tråd- och kabelbeläggningar. TOTM är också ett utmärkt alternativ för motståndskraft mot kemikaliemigrering i industristövlar och andra applikationer som kräver ett tufft material.
Ett vanligt problem med flexibla polymerer är migrering av mjukgörare från basmaterialet till omgivande miljöer, vilket orsakar förlust av flexibilitet och sprödhet. Detta sker främst genom tre mekanismer: förångning, diffusion från mitten till ytan och extraktion till kontaktande vätskor som fetter eller fetter.
När ftalatestrar används som primära mjukgörare i blandningar med TOTM, begränsas bibehållandet av töjnings- och dragegenskaper av den högre flyktigheten hos ftalater vid höga halter av ftalat. När ftalatkoncentrationerna ökas till mer än 40 viktprocent, börjar bibehållna drag- och töjningsegenskaper att misslyckas.
