Det är vanligtvis en viskös vätska eller fast fast substans med låg smältpunkt med hög kokning och svår att avdunsta, och genomgår i allmänhet inga kemiska reaktioner med plast.
Mjukgöraren måste först ha god kompatibilitet med hartset, och ju bättre kompatibilitet desto bättre mjukgörande effekt. Genom att lägga till mjukgörare kan plastens glasövergångstemperatur sänkas, vilket gör hård och styv plast mjuk och flexibel. Generellt krävs också att mjukningsmedlet är färglöst, ogiftigt, luktfritt, ljusbeständigt, värmebeständigt, köldbeständigt, flyktigt och mindre migrerande, icke brännbart, med god kemisk stabilitet och billigt och lätt att erhålla. Faktum är att en mjukgörare inte kan uppfylla alla ovanstående krav.
Mjukgörare delas in i huvudsakliga mjukgörare baserat på deras funktioner, nämligen lösningsmedelsbaserade mjukgörare; Hjälpmjukgörare, dvs icke lösningsmedelsmjukgörare; Mjukgörare av katalysatortyp; Enligt sin kemiska struktur kan den delas in i ftalater, fettsyraestrar, fosfatestrar, polyestrar, epoxiestrar, klorerade föreningar etc. Vanligt använda mjukgörare inkluderar dibutylftalat (DBP), dioktylftalat (DOP), epoxisojaolja, trimetylfenylfosfat, trifenylfosfat, dioktylsebacat, klorparaffin, etc. PVC är den huvudsakliga slutanvändaren av dessa mjukgörare. De huvudsakliga användningsområdena för PVC med tillsatta mjukgörare inkluderar ledningar, kablar, golv- och väggfaner, byggmaterial, bilar och förpackningsmaterial.
Mängden mjukgörare som används i plasttillsatser är relativt stor. Den totala produktionskapaciteten i Kina är cirka 1 miljon ton, och mjukgörare är främst ftalater med utmärkt omfattande prestanda och pris. Konsumtionen i de fyra stora produktions- och konsumtionsländerna och -regionerna i världen - USA, Västeuropa, Japan och Kina - står för 70 % till 90 %.
